About TCU Engineering
A Little History
The Department of Engineering at Texas Christian University was established in 1991, under the auspices of the AddRan College of Arts and Sciences. Initial development activities occurred during the 1991-1992 academic year, and the inaugural freshman class was enrolled in the Fall 1992. The first four-year cycle of engineering courses was completed at the close of the 1995-1996 academic year, and seven seniors received the first Bachelor of Science degrees to be awarded in Engineering at TCU. Sixty-two additional Engineering majors have graduated since the first graduation. Most hold industry position, while others are students at the following graduate schools: Georgia Institute of Technology, Texas A&M University, University of Texas at Austin, Virginia Tech, and McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Several have graduated from graduate school and currently hold industry positions.
Message from the Chair
At TCU, we believe we offer a distinctly different undergraduate learning experience. It's founded in the belief that we should do more than just teach technical skills. Our students have broad interests and most are involved in a variety of activities outside the engineering department. Communication skills, teamwork and systems-level thinking are taught throughout the engineering program and are emphasized in a year-long interdisciplinary, industry-sponsored design project.
Research opportunities are offered to many of our undergraduate students. We provide opportunities to gain experience with state-of-the-art equipment in our numerous lab classes.
We maintain small class sizes and expert significant student-faculty interaction outside of the classroom. TCU faculty members teach all of our engineering classes. They're interested in you and your undergraduate education and want to get to know you on a personal basis.
If all this appeals to you, you should consider Engineering at TCU.
